Sarah Ann is drawn to moments that capture emotion and celebrate everyday life. From 2016 to 2020, she worked as a photojournalist and photo editor at The Herald, documenting small-town life in rural Dubois County, Indiana. Her work focused on the traditions, past times, and family ties that the people of Southern Indiana pride themselves on, as well as the diverse identities of the next generations.
Sarah Ann was named Indiana Photographer of the Year three times by the Indiana News Photographers Association and recognized as Newspaper Picture Editor of the Year in the Best of Photojournalism contest hosted by the National Press Photographers Association. In 2015, she graduated summa cum laude from Rochester Institute of Technology's photojournalism program. Photographs in this portfolio were captured from 2014 to 2020.
As a leader in her newsroom, Sarah Ann learned user experience design and research in order to improve The Herald's digital offering and innovate ways to reach new audiences. This inspired her to pursue a career change to the field of human-centered design. She earned her MFA in Interaction Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Currently, she is an experience design researcher. She continues to marry storytelling and experience design in her personal work as a book artist.
